Groupe Energies Renouvelables, Environnement et Solidarités (GERES) is a French non-profit NGO founded in 1976.
Environmental conservation, climate change mitigation and adaptation, reducing energy poverty, and improving livelihood of the poor are the main focus areas for GERES. Activities include conducting energy efficiency programs, providing decentralized energy services for local economic development, supporting and developing renewable energies and promoting waste management.
Today, more than 250 staff members work on 60 innovative and sustainable development projects across 12 countries in Europe, Africa and Asia.
InAfghanistan
GERES has been working in Afghanistan since 2002 and has worked in Environment through Energy scope in 17 provinces of Afghanistan. GERES mission in Afghanistan is managed by a country office in Kabul. It is currently implementing two projects: Central Highlands Rural Development Programme in Bamyan province (in a consortium with two other French NGOs), supported by the French Development Agency and, Kabul Green Homes project in Kabul city (in partnership with two national NGOs), supported by the European Union. The GERES team in Afghanistan currently comprises 60 national staff and 3 expatriates.
MI**S**S I O N O F T H E P O S I T I O N**
The Knowledge Management and Communications Officer (KMCO) will address the communications related needs of the country office and two projects including establishing a system for knowledge management, guiding the project teams in designing and executing dissemination and awareness raising strategies, support in the development and refinement of advocacy and communication materials
He/She will report to the Country Director and work closely with the Project Managers.
MA I N T A S K S**
· The incumbent will serve as GERES Afghanistan knowledge management focal point. He/She will review the current practices and devise and implement a robust and efficient knowledge management system across projects. He/She will develop and improve filing and backing up systems for program documents, records and information, including physical files;
· He/she will work closely and in partnership with both project teams and the Country Director for development/production of communication and advocacy instruments and materials for creating visibility of the work including compendiums, briefing materials and fact sheets as and when required;
· He/she will be responsible for guiding the two project teams to devise strategies to organise awareness raising campaigns and develop good quality communication materials to promote the Energy Saving Solutions developed by the R&D teams;
· Support the Audio-Visual team in effectively capturing and communicating stories from the field and developing awareness raising films
Support the Country Director in the preparation of periodic reports
Suggest improvements to communication structures, systems and tools to support the teams in improving internal communication
REQUIREMENTS
Education: University degree in communication, social sciences or other relevant field;
Experience: At least 2 years of experience in communication and knowledge management, preferably in environment/rural development and in developing countries, and experience in behavior change communication;
Desirable: Knowledge of communicating in environmental issues and designing simple knowledge managements systems in small organizations;
Languages**: Fluent English, Persian (Dari) an asset, French appreciated;
Other Skills: Very good interpersonal skills and capacity to work in multi-cultural teams; comfortable to live and work in a rural environment and in a country with a conflict situation.
CONDITIONS
French fixed-term contract (CDDU) of 6 months, renewable; Salary based upon profile, experience and GERES salary grid;
Security allowance: 700€ gross/month (prorated to the time spent in Afghanistan).
Position based in Kabul and Bamyan
Accommodation in GERES guesthouse with a monthly living allowance of USD 330 (prorated to the time spent in Afghanistan);
A return ticket between Afghanistan and home country and a 3 month intermediary break in the sub-region (flight ticket covered up to 400€ for each break);
26 days of paid leave in a year + 5 R&R (additional) leave per intermediary break;
Covered and managed by the employer: Afghan visa & work permit costs; health, retirement, and unemployment insurances costs (partly); repatriation insurance.
